1979 merc 402 runs okay, pees strong after a new waterpump and thermostat. I think the poppet is stuck open. It pees strong right from start-up and doesn't seem to change any after warm-up or at full throttle. Water doesn't seem warm. My other mercury (9.9) piddles like 60 yo man until it heats up and then a good strong stream of warm (140f) water. That sounds like a working thermostat.
I want to change out all the parts around the poppet but I can't find a number for a kit. I've got the part numbers for individual parts but was looking for a kit to save a couple of bucks. I see a lot of kits for sale but I don't know the right number.
