pinion gear for 50hp

Hi all i have a j50belcob 87 i think and need a pinion gear.. the fwd gear looks almost untouched so think i might just put a new pinion in - or shd i get a fwd set?

Also - how many teeth does the pinion gear have? my fwd gear has 29..

first whats the problem? and checking model # might be an 85"

Pinion and forward are only listed as a set.------Very pricy parts.-----Also need to be shimmed when installed for proper tooth contact !!
