1977 75 hp. evinrude 75743s 20 inch transom pulled lower unit to replace water pump o-ring no. 65 on your drawing was half way on drive shaft where does it belong

Is there a groove at the top of the driveshaft ?---------------This o-ring keeps water out of the spline and keeps grease in there.
