Hello all, I see a lot of questions here but not too many reports of resolution. So, in trying to be helpful to others as others have been helpful to me, I post the following resolution. Originally, I had a no spark condition on a 1995 Johnson 150hp Fast Strike. No spark on all cylinders. Boat would crank over and start all winter on the trailer, went to the lake, WOT for five minutes, like turning off the key she went down. Did my research and found the solution was to throw parts at it. Actually, I checked the kill switch and shift switch first after getting it home and checking for spark. Took everything apart and checked flywheel and stator. The glyptol/insulating tar for the stator was all over the top of the powerhead. As the stator overheated the tar ran out leaving exposed wires, and I'm guessing shorting out the stator. New stator arrived, part #S625459 $400. Installed stator and motor cranked over and started fine. Next day motor ran, three days later motor ran. Shoot that was easy. Several threads talked about the rectifier catching on fire, so, I decided to replace it. Part arrived, installed, motor won't run. Darn. re-installed old rectifier, motor won't run. Checked for spark and had none. What the fun? More research, Sleeves on parts MUST MATCH, hmmm. Stator sleeve was GRAY, power pack sleeve was RED. Yeah, I fried the older power pack that was on the motor. More digging. e-mails back and forth, assurances, disclaimers, snake oil fixes, ordered new power pack part # 18-5887-1 $300. Verified that new pack had gray sleeve, confirmed by vendor, box arrived, RED sleeve. More research, this pack replaces the following part #'s 18-5887, 584910, 584985, 584990,765387, and supercedes part#113-4985. My original aftermarket pack was a CDI 113-4985. I believe CDI has been acquired by Sierra/Domesti. So, after replacing power pack, motor turned over and ran fine. When replacing the rectifier/voltage reg. on these motors, the purple wire is taped up, and not used. The gray wire sends the signal to the RPM gauge on the dash. I now have an erratic rpm gauge. I suppose with all the new stuff the gauge got jealous and has decided to act up. I guess I'll run this down now. Man I love owning a boat. HAPPY FATHERS DAY to all of you who are.
