newbe with questions about a 1987 Johnson 60 HP

Its mounted on a 24 foot pontoon. starts and runs great, but sometimes even after its warmed up, it stalls when you put it in gear, do I need to set the idle up a little bit?

Second question..........what should the output be in terms of voltage when the engine is running? (curious about charging the battery)

I am very new to boating, but I work on motorcycles, so I consider myself mechanically inclined.

I have ordered a service manual, but it hasnt arrived yet.

Thanks in advance for any help.
 
Usually that issue can be cured by proper sync adjustments. Be sure to replace the Throttle cam bushing if it is missing. (Looks like a piece of clear plastic tubing) It's very common to see them missing, and laying in the lower cowling somewhere.

Syncing makes sense.

Thanks for the heads up about the throttle cam bushing........

Any idea about what the voltage should be?
