New lower unit for my merc 115 4 cyl need shift shaft upgrade

New lower coming from SEI. My merc had the 3 jaw reverse. SEI said I had to upgrade shift shaft, it means I must pull powerhead. Merc is not corroded at all.
I have a lift tool. Any thoughts on anything I should do while powerhead is up?

Curious as to why you need to pull the powerhead.

Sei only has the 6 jaw reverse available. Yhey say I must upgrade shift shaft and arm. Arm is under powerhead.

I just got the shift shaft upgrade kit... with no instructions. The new shift shaft has a shorte arm at the top. The bracket that attaches to the top is "L" shaped instead of straight. What side up and what side onto shift arm? Does the short leg of the "L" go fore or aft? Short leg of "L" to shaft or shifter bracket?

I put her together. Short part of linkage on the shift shaft arm. From the prop side view.. it looks like a backwards #7. Seens to be working.
