Hull: 1999 Bayliner Capri 1850 LS
New Engine 4.3L 2009 just installed
Induction: 2b
Timing: 10 degress BTDC (grounded the computer when timed for base time mode, but noticed it didn't make any difference whether it was grounded or not)
Performance is terrible .... at least 11 mph slower than old engine at WOT (hole shot TERRIBLE)
1. What I thought was a vacuum leak around the intake manifold was vacuum whistling down both valve cover vent tubes. When I block these off, the engine dies.
2. Had a very deafening "squeal" in the last 10 minutes of the test run. Got it home and pulled the serptine belt and the drive unit.... ran it and no squeal. Put serptine belt back on and ran it; no squeal. Haven't had time yet to put the drive back on and test it again.
So, what am I missing here?
One question another boater brough up: Does my new 2009 roller rocker motor have the same cam as my old 1999 4.3 had?
Thanks for your comments!
