Recently I decided to replace the water pump on my 1989 50 horse Evinrude. Model E50BELCEC. Being the brain surgeon I am when I removed the lower unit I disconnect the shift linkage at the lower unit instead of up top. I have since removed the linkage from up top. However I am still missing something with the lower unit connection because I only have a reverse gear. Also when I put the linkage back together I never am able to get the proper linage height of 21 29/32". I am always more than that. Can anyone help me understand how this is suppose to go back together or how I should proceed.
