Motor totally dead???

Just recently my honda 10 died after a long stint of use (9 hours straight) I managed to get it working again but it wont run with out the choke fully opened up. Ive cleaned out the carberator but still nothing, Thats only problem number one, more recently I was motoring out of a bay with thick kelp growing and smelled something burnin, looked behind me and there was smoke coming out of the pee hole and no water. went for the kill swich and she coughed and died before I could even hit it. Wont start again.
If anyone has any ideas about whats wrong and/or how to fix her I would reallllllly appreciate your expertise and rambles. Thanks...
 
Do a compression test-------------Inspect / Replace waterpump impeller.-----------Choke fully opened or closed ??------be specific on what you mean here.-----------If you have to pull out the choke knob to keep it running then you may want to revisit carburetor cleaning again.
 
Thanks for replying. The choke is full open, like pulled out letting in air make ing the light hissing sound it does, will try with the carb again. could you explain whats involved in a compression test and where itll get me.
