Motor cuts when throttle forward

"I have a '79 115 hp Evinr

"I have a '79 115 hp Evinrude motor. I can get it started with some difficulty ( it can take many tries), but once running when I shift to forward the motor cuts out. Any thought on what could be causing this?"

If you are new to this motor, get the service manual, check for spark, compression and a clean fuel supply (inc. carbs) to get the fundamentals eliminated then troubleshoot beyond there if your problem is greater.

"when i boght mine (11579tlr,johnson) it did the same thing so i removed the carbs and cleaned them and the prob was resolved. there is also an idle adjustment on your linkage.

a shop manual is still a must, though i havent got my hands on one yet i will."
