Hi Guys

re. 2000 50hp johnson

Was hoping for some help from the experts, i took the boat out for a run after finally getting the motor running and was fine getting on plane for 10 approx mins then slowed down then i had very minimal drive like 3-4knots max and the outboard wasn't revving high at all...i went to idle and it revved high as expected and got good response but as soon its in gear Fwd or rev just couldn't get the revs up...thought it could be the props clutch but wouldn't the motor still rev high and no drive like a slipping clutch in a car??

Also when at home i put it in gear and revved high as expected...only when in the water it struggles...what ever that means

Any info would be much appreciated

Sounds like it is running on one cylinder.----And yes it will rev up in nuetral on one cylinder.----------Not likely a prop problem in this case.

Another possibility is a plugged fuel strainer/filter not able to keep up with demand at WOT a stiff fuel pump diaphram will give the same effect. Definately check for compression and spark the cylinder drop test will tell you if its running on both cyls.
