Mercury tilt switch sticks

" I have a 94 Mercury 175(2.5 litre) with a tilt switch that sticks real bad in either position. I remember mercury having a recall of sorts on these but I'm not sure if mine would be covered due to age. Is there alot to changing just the switch(binnacle mounted)or do you have to change the whole lever? I know most you guys are OMC fans but I thought I'd ask. Thanks alot, Bill "

" I doubt that recall would cover an engine that old, however I'm pretty sure you can easily replace the old switch without replacing the lever. It depends on which control you have. "

"Althought Mercs aren't my line of expertise, I would agree with Tom due to the fact that I have yet to see a control handle where a PTT switch would be a permanent component. On every control handle on any type of throttle/shift control assy that I've come across, the PTT switch was a item that could be purchased seperately.

" thanks guys, I looked at the control and didn't see an "easy" way of just snapping the end off the handle where the switch is. Maybe I'll trade a favor with the local merc guys(hope one drives a GM) and they'll give me the trick. Thanks again, Bill "
