Mercury alarm squealing

I have a pontoon with a mercur

I have a pontoon with a mercury 90 outboard. The alarm beeps properly when you turn the key. After running a long time the alarm starts a constant squeal. There is a strong stream of water. Any suggestions? Thanks.

"Julie, if the water is not getting above "warm" to the touch and you can still touch the power head without having to immediately pull away your fingers, the temp sensor may be going on you.

These are prone to failure. They work on simple resistance - as temperature changes, resistance changes until at about 190 degrees the circuit completes and the alarm goes off.

These can be tested, but on most merc models the replacement part is about 20 bucks...."
