i recently purchased a 97 searay 175 with a 3.0LX mercruiser.
Prior owner said it had sat for 18 months. Based on the registration tags and dry rot of the tires I think it was more like 2years plus.
anyway boat ran good on test drive but had a slight hesitation when I gunned it. I figured at some point soon I would need to rebuild the carb. From what I understand, that is fairly common after sitting.
Anyway, last time I had the boat out, the problem had gotten worse. It would have a hard time idling, hesitation got a lot worse. The only thing different I did on last trip was I sat idling for a while (about 15 minutes) as I filled up the tubes from a battery fed pump. Other than that it was a regular day on the lake...although I did cut it short due to the listed problems & imcoming weather system.
2 days ago I tore the carb apart. it wasn't insanely dirty. It was actually cleaner than I thought it would be. None of the jets were clogged up. Prior to removing it, I did check and see two streams of gas shooting into the carb when I gassed it. In-Carb filter had some stuff in it, but not much.
I also changed out the plugs.
anything else anyone can suggest doing that would help the symptoms above while I've got my credit card out
