"I purchased a used Mariner 9.9 and the serial number plate is missing. Is there any other location or way I can find the serial number?

I believe it was built in the late 70's or early 80's. I can take photos and post or email them.

Thanks,

George"

"George, on the waterjacket, back near the spark plugs, on the right hand side (if you are standing behind the motor), is a welsh plug (small silver disk the size of a quarter).

It will have the serial pressed into it. Here's a pic from a little OMC, but Merc is the same. Should give you an idea where to look.

"Hi Graham,

Thank you - I have it. It is a 1984. Now I ned to smooth out the idle. As I understand it the carb was rebuilt two years ahgo but the motor was not used. Last fall I ran the carb dry.

I installed new plugs and added Sea Foam to the carb and sprayed some cleaner into the carb. The gas is 50: 1: mixture, fresh and with a new tank. It starts fine but idles rough and after 10-15 minutes running in a barrel stalls.

I am doing my best to adjust the mix but cannot get it to smooth out. It clunks intermittently and runs rough.

What is ther best way to adjust the carb?

Thanks,

George"

"Thanks - I am doing better getting it up to snuf. Am I correct the plug gap should be .35 and to adjust the carb - screw all the way in and then out 1.5 turns?

Thanks,

George"
