"Now I'm down to 1/2 mile to the gallon on my twin crusader 350's 5.7 carbed. Just 2 months ago I could get .9 mpg. I noticed it when I was heavier than I have ever been, lots of dive gear, extra batteries, more fuel than I've ever had on board. Offshore I cleaned the bottom, burned 1/2 of the fuel, and I still wasn't getting the speed that I usually get at the same rpms. 3100 rpms would give me 22 mph, now even light on the way in it would give me 16. Both motors top out at 4000 rpms now, when one would get close to 5000, and the other 4400 before. The fuel burn at the rpms wasn't my concern, it was the speed difference. The boat weighs 10000, we had 200 gallons of fuel in it at the beginning, and 30 left when we got back. I checked the props, and each had a small ding. If it helps at all, on the first attempt to plane, full of fuel one of the motors was backfiring thru the carb a few times. The wake was larger than normal, and would spike up higher than normal where the wakes first join. Tell me your thoughts. By the way, what is the correct way to clean the flame arrestors?"
