"What if the oil does smell like gas? In essence, on my crusader 350 for my 1973 Luhrs there was a water oily gasy liquid spitting into the carb from the hoses. Then we had a small fire in the carb right before oil pressure went to 0. Before that RPM's just kept going down. "steam" coming out of exhaust"
