Just had my port crusader 454

Just had my port crusader 454 350 drop from 40psi
to 25-30 psi after putting in 3 quarts of oil.
Usually runs at 40psi all the time
I ran it for about an hour with pressure not returning to 40psi.
Any help with whats going on.
Thanks

There's the distinct possibility that you've compromised the Oil Pump,+/or the Bearings...."

"Did you have the cylinders tested for individual compression? Most of the time it is the 20 year old gauge. They go down more than compression. Do yourself a favor before biting on the sky is falling,
Ask your mechanic to do a compression check. It will save a huge amount of speculation. Crusaders are good engines and will give you years of service."

"I converted a 1982 Crusader 454 cid engine with 650 hours to use the recommended electric fuel pump. I mounted it on the engine over the block off plate where the mechanical pump bolted up. I also wired in the oil pressure switch as recommended. It seems to work ok, as I can go from idle through wot, however I now experience frequent shutdowns and sometimes cannot restart. During cranking, I get no oil pressure readings on either the electric or a small mechanical gauge I installed on the tee fitting added to accomodate the sending unit and new pressure switch. If I let 15-20 minutes pass, it may restart, but soon quits. It also may not restart at all. Initial pressure readings are steady at 45-50 lbs., but may fluctuate between 25-35 just before the engine quits. The pressure switch is set to shut off pump at less than 10 lbs. when running. If crankcase is full, oil and filter are new, can the oil pump be going bad? Can it be the oil pressure regulator going bad? What else could account for this problem?

Thank you."
