Johnson RDS-24M

My neighbor gave my 15 year old sone a boat and motor that has not ran since 1989. The motor is a Johnson model # RDS-24M with S/N of 2170343. It is on a fiberglass boat made by Shell Lake Boat Company model #V1470.

I was wondering if anyone knew anthing about the motor (year/HP - value, ease of repair, etc) and the boat.

I cleaned it up a little and it looks really nice, the motor turns when I pull the recoil. Am interested in fixing if it is worth anything. Any input would be great! I could just see myself cruising around the lake!

1962 40 HP. Would need a good going thru. Compression check, likely coils replaced, carb kit, lower unit kit and maybe a complete tear down and replacement of gaskets and who knows what else. Parts still available and anyone with some mechanical abilities and a service manual can do most maintenance repairs. Dandy project for someone who is learning or bonding time.
