I need help in changing the water pump on my 9.9 Johnson outboard motor.

"Norm.... If you intend to keep that engine for a few months or so, I strongly suggest that you obtain a manual for it. The knowledge you'll gain will save you from making expensive mistakes. Check with:

However, for starters.... Spin the prop and put the engine in reverse. Remove the bolts retaining the lower unit. Drop the unit down slightly and you'll see a brass shift connector at the front portion of the unit. There are two (3) 3/8" bolts which retain the upper and lower shift rods in that connector. Remove the top bolt and then remove the lower unit.

The water pump is sitting on top of the lower unit.
