how to visualy inspect if starter/alternators are marine?

I know why I need marine starters/alternators (all electrical sources sealed) so if you get a fuel leak it will possibly lessen the chance of blowing up. My question is how can I visually look at a starter/alt, take it apart, etc… to make sure it is indeed sealed, I just don’t know what to look for.

I am asking because I have a couple Chrysler 318 starters that have been painted a few times and I don’t see the standard stick on sticker saying marine. These starters are very expensive, and I would like to find out if they are indeed marine.

Thanks

You may wanna inquire on the CHRYSLER board for something specific to their products.

On the alternators, there is usually screening if the case is "open" for ventilation...these eliminate flame propagation and contain most internally generated sparks.

On the starter, certain points are sealed dependant upon the OEM recommendations...on well designed units, you may find premium copper lugs, usually a size larger than 'normal'...
