Hey Paul - Mercury vs Tohatsu parts question

Is anyone able to verify based on experience if you can interchange a 4 stroke 5hp Mercury circa 2007 carburetor with a Tohatsu carburetor of the same year and stroke?

I'm thinking of swapping Mercury carburetor part# 803522A05 with Tohatsu/Nissan parts 3R1032001M or 3AS032000

Any idea if this will work? FYI-I heard that 2 cylinder outboards may/may not work (8-9-15 hp), but the 4-5-6 hp is only 1 cylinder...

I asked this over in the Mercury forum and they said ask here instead :)
 
The merc motors of that vintage are actually Tohatsu units, so yes, the carbs for 4/5/6 all interchange. The earlier carbs idle better, because they were designed to an earlier EPA standard.
The 8/9.8 carbs also interchange. Some Merc units, labelled 9.9 (but are really Tohatsu 9.8 motors), have EU-style carbs with slightly different plumbing.
You can not interchange a 4/5/6 with an 8/9.8, nor with a 15.
