"I have a 1985 Evinrude 90 horse. Motor would idle and start normal, but lost power above an idle. I noticed gas leaking around crank case. Trying to replace gaskets, but can not remove crankcase. All bolts are out and I have a space on top, but something is holding at the bottom."

The top seems to be loose. The bottom appears to be holding"

I repeat: Remove the complete

I repeat: Remove the complete powerhead from the leg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Then You will find out what is holding!!!!!

You must remove the shift rod

You must remove the shift rod pin and the lower cowling I can see in the photo. It will expose additional bolts you are not seeing .

"No luck! I removed the complete powerhead and exposed the shaft. The bottom is seems to still have a bolt holding it at the bottom. Underneath, I see two bolts that appear to go to the crankshaft. One has a nut from the bottom and the other has a bolt. I removed the nut and bolt from each side, but it still will not come off. I even put a nut back on and tapped from the bottom."

"I can see a small bolt on each side from under the bottom, but the only way I know to get these off is to remove motor from boat and take lower unit apart. Please don't tell me I have to do that just to change the gasket on crankcase!"

"When was the last time you remove the lower unit ?
It looks like it frozen to the power head , remove the LU, this will give better idea"

"I recently purchased the boat

"I recently purchased the boat. I have been told it was rebuilt a couple of years before he set it up. I really appreciate the advise you guys offer! I have decided to use liquid gasket maker. I injected that around the crankcase seal, rebuilt the carbs, and put the motor back together. After completing this, I tried to start the motor, but the shifter and key switch has no power. I have been reading and will try to check the kill circuit and see if I have a problem there."

"Unless You completely remove

"Unless You completely remove the power head and split the cyl and crank case the 'proper' way, You are not only wasting time but most likely ruining the engine."
