Help Identifying Motor Year and Model

Hello All. The tag has worn out on my motor and I have no idea of what year and model it is. The serial number is G2971187. Is there anyone here that can find out what model and year it is by the serial number?

Hi John, welcome. Does it have a cap on the powerhead somewhere that looks like this?

yes the number G2971187 was on the cap
its a 25 hp evinrude outboard

Got a picture or two? You have to reduce picture size to below 1k. Perhaps it's a replacement powerhead?

This is the best I can do with pictures for now. The boat is winterized and stored. The cowling looks like part of it was painted in the past (the burgandy part)

looks to be a 1989 to 91 model to me.

the boat itself is a 1991 but im not sure if its the original motor. I want to know the model number so that I can order parts for it

What part are you looking for?----Many parts are the same year after year.

currently a water pump kit and Lower Unit Drain Plugs. There might be more but I havent looked into what else I should do to the motor. ? I bought it last summer and it ran great. The previous owner said it was serviced in the spring and good to go. Im not really sure what was done or what I should do out of precaution.

water pump impeller should be easy to find.--Drain plugs are the same from 1950 to 2007 I think.--Your local boat shop ( if you have one ) should be glad to help.

When getting drain and vent screws, be sure to order extra gaskets in case you lose one in the gravel/grass.
