"i had posted previously about the bellow boot and gimble bearing issues on an AQ outdrive/motor combo, when i was getting the parts at the local marina the parts guy told me that when the u-joint assy was out you could spin the bearing and check for issues, but from what i can tell while i have the assy out there is a seal that appears to be in the way of even seeing the bearing, so was the parts guy an idiot or do i have to remove that seal to gain acces to the bearing?"
 
"no gimbal bearing there. ther

"no gimbal bearing there. there is an intermediate bearing. it is inside the bell housing. grab the shaft with drive off. if you can wiggle it side to side, (or up and down) bearing is bad. dont remove the seal, it will do you no good. the parts guy was referring to a newer drive. (joint venture, or newer) they are totally different now."
