gen 1V 454 no oil pressure

3 weeks ago had motor running at dock,all gauges were fine.Started up Friday no oil pressure.changed sender, gauge, wires to gauge no pressure.removed sender from block oil will shoot out for 4 or 5 revolutions and then a steady stream.This is with no sparkplugs and/or sparkplugs in with coil unhooked .Used a drill and manually tried to prime oil pump no pressure on gauge but oil all over drill shaft.Could it be clogged oil filter and it is by passing sending unit or what? The oil pump spun with the drill freely w/o bogging down.any good ideas?
 
Yes, get a mechanical gauge on there to know for sure the pressure. YOu can use a setup with the clear small plastic tubing and a remote gauge if that helps you read it when the engine is still in the boat. When you drill prime a 454 with cold oil, you will notice a pretty significant load on a typical 3/8" VSR drill when it builds pressure, fyi. Did the engine sound normal that time it ran with zero pressure indication? Valves clacking?
 
sounded fine ,no knocks no valves rattling but i didnt run for long.100- 120 degrees temp tops then shut down.27 hrs on motor and 17hrs since oil changed.not very happy.I will try mechanical gauge.
 
Just wonerding if your other instruments are reading properly ? Could you hopefully just lost power to the gauge?
 
changed oil filter,installed manual oil gauge primed with a drill.10#pressure at idle.Removed sending unit and primed with drill,oil shoots out steady 6 to 8 inches. Oil looks a little milky but on the stick it looks brand new.
