Fuel issues 1989 johnson

I have a 40 HP johnson tracker model number TJ40ELCEC. Motor will start and idle after primimg bulb but will stop when gas drains in filter. Looks as if the pump is not drawing the fuel. I can pump and fill the in line filter to keep it running. Checked the vent on the on board tank and its clear. Not leaks of fuel. I can pump the bulb and it will hold the gas in the filter all day. Any help would be of great help.

Pull fuel line from pump to carb off carb and see if pump is working; if it is look for a restriction in pick-up tube in the tank. If pump is not working then time for rebuild or replacement. Good luck
