Fuel cap jammed up

My stainless steel fuel cap is jammed up probably from corrosion on the threads.

I’ve been soaking it w/ wd/40 liquid wrench both unsuccessfull to open.

Been avoiding removing the cap but thinking remove an submerge in desil fuel.

Please advise how to easly release the cap. the other cap I forced it an it snapped the grips off.

also tips on new grips on broken cap, I still use it just pull off the temporary tanks fill tube.

thanks

I believe there is an o-ring in there .----Would prevent water from getting into tank.----Would prevent a " magic potion " from getting in there.----Agreed with ---" replace it "----And I doubt it is STAINLESS as well.

will the plastic type be less likely to seize up? is the a wrench that fits into the holes for removing? I like there 4 year warrenty. I'll have to check into if theres a O/ring seal.

you will be better off with a metal one...

its called a spanner wrench...match the pegs in the wrench to the holes in the cap. they come in a couple different styles - the correct one should be obvious.

OK metal I'd probaly break the plastic. if I soak in desil fuel will this release the corrosion an separate the lid?
maybe...it all depends upon what is binding up the cap.
I ruined the 2nd filler cap. plan to use my grinders spanner wrench, drilling into the cap. at least I can get away w/ reusing the lower section an cord.
FWIW, get a safety lanyard with a clip on one end...tie the spanner to the other end with a knot...at the very least, get a spare spanner.
ZAMAK is pot metal and really has little strength compared to stainless...don't expect much from it...assuming the threads fit the existing part.
