"I have a 1992 Carver 350 ACMY, twin 454 Crusaders with carbs and about 385 hours on each. What is the preferred fuel additive/treatment for in-season operation of these vintage engines.
Thanks, Drew"

"I use a bottle of ZDDPluss in each engine to supplement the SM rated gas oil.
For gas additive, depends on a few things. If you intend to use the gas within a few months and you don't have water in the tank, I don't use any additive. Otherwise, use a non-alchohol based additive, sta-bil, etc."

"Here in the humid Chesapeake Bay region, with frequent temperature shifts, the required use of E-10 can raise hell with condensation and water absorption due to the hygroscopic (water attracting) nature of ethanol. The general wisdom here, in addition to using 10 micron fuel filters/separators is the addition of Startron additive, both for storage, and when refueling during the season."

"Agree. Where are you on the

"Agree. Where are you on the Chessie, Luke? We're on the Elk River, way up north.

"Been there! We used to anchor near the end of the runway and watch the A-10s roar over our head after having lunch at that seafood resturant!

Ah, memories.....

"Ah, but back to the fuel thin

"Ah, but back to the fuel thing. We get our gas at the marina that sells the valvtech brand. It has the required additives, and so far we have had no gas related problems. (1995 454xl msts 400hr)"

"Our fuel stop also has ValveTec fuel. In the 4 years I have been fueling there, I also have been lucky enough to avoid all of those crazy fuel issues. Even after each season of winter storage, she starts easily.
I can't say that it is purely the fuel. Maybe my tank is clean or my filters work but...I can't look the proverbial gift horse in the mouth...as they say !

While we have dealt with many other "events", they are not fuel related and the separators and filters are clean"
