this is what has cooked. It has telephone jack wire to it. Anyone have history on this type of incident?

That would be the data cable that joins the Freedom series Chrg/Int to the LINK head unit.

Best to contact Xantrex Tech Support directly ..... and/or use the "contact" feature.

Once you establish email contact, you could send a few photos to the Tech person, and further discuss via phone call.
