First time out for me, (of the season) after having my Pontoon readied by the Marina. Half an hour trip to other side of lake to put in for the day at favorite wa"

"Joe, I never heard as engine

"Joe, I never heard as engine damage referred to as "Cracked". Scored is more likely. The usual causes for a scored cylinder (or two) are overheating, lean fuel mixture or lack of lubrication. I also think it unlikely motor was "pushed" down into mud.

Did you either mix oil with the gas(or have oil injection)? When was the last time the waterpump was replaced? If you had added oil and the waterpump was working, you may have a dirty carb.

If you have someone repair the motor it will likely be $200+ in parts and at least $300 in labor."

"Chris,
Thanks for the reply

"Chris,
Thanks for the reply. Apparently scored is what it is being called by the Marina now. And, that the cylinders are so severely scored as to make it impossible to rework them because they are now too thin. Nevermind that it still doesn't explain why the engine overheated or did I really in fact throw mud up into the engine as to cause it to overheat...hmmm. Seeing the the Marina does my winterizing and prepares the boat every year for summer. I did however find a guy in Pittsburgh that would remanufacture the engine for about $1800.00 but after hearing what you have said I may have to look into this a little deeper than I thought. The guy in PGH thought it sounded a little funny also and assured me that he would be able to determine exactly what the problem was while he has the engine apart. Like you, he did mention water pump leak over the winter, or perhaps it was feul pump, I'm not sure(not very engine savy). I'll let you know how it turns out, and if you think of anything else please let me know...
thank-you, Joe"
