"Is there a product I could us

"Is there a product I could use to flush some of the rust out of the raw whater side besides muriatic acid ? Something stronger!

Good news is that I fixed that elbow and things look to be ok. I had a good mechanic look at the boat and he said to change the raw water risers on both sides. Do one engine at as time if money is a problem, but do both side at the same time per engine. It's the pits he said but it needs to be done.

He also said for me to put a fitting that has a garden hose hook up and set it up before the raw water pump to flush the system with fresh water in my salt water slip. He said it will give me 2-3 years extra in life. Just roll out your hose and connect it to the hose fitting in your boat per engine and run it for 10-15 minutes. I will try it."

"You really don't want to

"You really don't want to use anything stronger...that what caused the problem in the first place. Engine exhaust mixed with salt water = various acids, all of which are very corrosive. When they get clogged, you may be able to rod them out but I haven't seen anybody get away with that trick more than once. Bite the bullet and get a replacement set as advised.

Flushing helps by diluting the acid. Works best when done after each use. Just be careful and ensure you have a LEAK FREE installation. I'd also suggest bronze hardware, not brass. If not, what will happen is an air leak into the raw water stream...As you can read on many previous threads, air doesn't absorb heat like water."

"Make sure when your flushing

"Make sure when your flushing to shut down the raw water intake as well, you might need to add a ball valve, but one should be there anyway."
