Evinrude 75 hp overheating problem

"I bought a 1983 7.5 hp Evinru

"I bought a 1983 7.5 hp Evinrude. Ran it for about 10 - 15 minutes on a small pond. I noticed it was not pumping water as it should and shut it off. I replaced the impeller, but I cannot get it to crank now. There is no spark when the rope starter is pulled. Is there a thermal cutout system on this motor, or did I "cook" the power packs?

"Get yourself a Service Manual for your motor, you might find one on e-bay or Brownspoint. I'm not sure if there is a thermal cutout or fuse for the power packs on this model or not but I ran an Evinrude 33 HP once until it got so hot it shut itself off when the water pump impeller and cooling system got sand in it. After cleaning the sand out of the cooling system and replacing the impeller the engine ran fine for several years after that."
