Thank,s for reply this sounds like a mission reason for doing this is as follows bought outboard seen it running decided to have a look at gear oil removed both drain plugs out came more water than oil so removed gearcase and discovered inpeller knacked also shirt rod houseing corroded whilst awaiting new parts coming i rubbed down and spray painted gearcase only to find that it will not turn so i put shift rod back on and manuely pulled on shift upwards and prop only turns about1/4 inch same goes when i pull gearshift downwards but prop spins freely when in neutral think iv made a pigs ear of it as i say it appered to be ok to start with been suggested that whilst it was empty of oil that air has made it corrode inside many thank,s
