Just a follow up, some may remember that I was tackling the tach and sync gauge issue of not being accurate. Friday I finally got around to disconnecting the engine harness plugs at the rear of the engine. Cleaned the corrosion off and sprayed with electronic cleaner, but ran out so I used dielectric grease and put both of them back to together (1 for each engine)

The results are great, now my tach sits on 0 when key is off and they both appear accurate and now the sync gauge seems to be working great. A month or so ago, I did clean all the connections behind the dash panel and also on the coil and distributors.

Next is the tune up.

I wrapped ours (86's) with self vulcanizing tape over 15 years ago (with the dielectric grease in the cups) and haven't had any recurrence since. If you have any in the tool box, I'd suggest a few wraps while things are still clean.

Great idea, I will do it Wednesday. I had to order a spark plug boot removal tool from Napa today because three I can't get the boot off. Hard to reach locations, it's times like this that miss the engines boxes that were on my other boats. Now I have a engine room and it gets tight in some places. I am dreading the thought of timing the port engine, not sure yet how I can get to the timing marks.

chalk up one for the good guys ! It's probably the most common cause for problems like you had, real easy fixes, but they sure can be a bear to find out where they are. Five minute repair after 4 hours of looking. Nice work....Lee
