"I am rewiring my boat and moving my alternator output directly to the batteries versus going thru an isolator.

The alternators don't have a separate sense wire and the output wire is an orange color, from the original wiring schematics the orange wire used to go directly to the start solenoid, this is also where the red battery cable connected...I assume the output went here just as an easy way to recharge the battery....

my question is since I am going directly to the battery with the alternator output, do I need to run a wire from the alternator to the start solenoid.....is there any other reason that I am not aware of for the starter solenoid to need power from an alternator????"

"No, but why run it all the way to the battery when you can stop at the starter lug?"

I am rewiring through a batter

I am rewiring through a battery select switch and from alternator to battery is shorter distance now.

I Agree with Rick,.....

You're adding circuits that Don't need to be added......

Wire the Switch as it should be,+ Leave the Alt. wire on the Stater Lug....."
