Does this make sense loss of control at end of day

"While out at the start of the day, I don't have much of a problem pulling up to a fuel dock, spinning the boat in place, etc. By the end of a hard day running, though, there is very poor response of the props at low speed, such that sometimes the starboard engine seems barely to be doing anything -- or the port in reverse, etc. -- you get the picture.

If my transmission fluid is low or dirty, will this cause this a loss of performance as the transmission heats up under load resulting in a lack of control at low speed on returning to the dock? Should I just try a fluid change, or should I be looking for something else?"

If your fluid is anything othe

If your fluid is anything other than ATF red better change it. Depending on the tranny your capacity is only about 2 quarts. You cant afford to be even a little low.

"Well, actually it is ATF red, and it seems clean and full on both transmissions according to the dipstick.

What else could be causing this? I'm thinking too much marine growth on the running gear (I'm due for a cleaning), but why would the problem get worse as the day goes on?"

"Slim chance of both trany&#39

"Slim chance of both trany's failing at the same time due to internal or fluid problem. I suspect you have something wrapped around both props, i.e crab pot line, large plastic bag, Jimmy Hoffa etc. Brett, I would send a diver down to look at your running gear before doing anything else.
