Dipstick Lication

Can anyone tell me location of dipstick on a1985 MerCruiser 260 hp 5.7 liter inboard?

Should be on starter side just forward and a slight boss sticking out of block with a hole in it facing upwards for the dipstick tube to be pushed in

Thanks. Pretty sure I found where it should be. Small hole in the block with a little bit of oil pooling around it. Not sure if it’s just the dipstick missing or a sleeve as well? Just bought the boat a couple weeks ago. Hard to figure how a dipstick goes missing. Thanks for your help.

The inboards usually came with a dipstick tube attached to the oil pan...on the I/O engines, as Jack said, the tube goes into the block.

If you get the serial number, use the tabs at the top for Boat Engine Parts, and you can see the various exploded parts diagrams...
