difficult starting

Hi i have not posted for a while. I have a 1988 Mainship mediterranean with twin 454 crusaders with 230 hours on them. Unfortunately i just replaced my port engine due to a severs knock. New motor is running great ( thank god). My starboard motor seems to only start when i engage my crossover switch at the same time as i try to start engine. Any suggestions?

Starboard side won't crank with it's own battery? Check the charge on the battery, then both ends of the battery cables. Since it's starting with 'a little help', I'd suspect the starter and associated wiring is fine and the issue is with the battery or its connections.
