Crusader will not turn over

I have twin 454 crusaders. Recently purchased boat (in November 2010) Neither engine was running at the time.

I pulled the plugs filled all cylandars with sea foam and marvels. I let it soak for over a month just in case. After replacing the battery, starter on the starboard and rebuilding carb on the port both were running great.

Bendix started acting up on the port engine. After a few clicks of the bendix not kicking in the engine started and reved up ( I must have moved the throttled up by accident). It reved up to approx 4500 RPM. I immedatly shut it down. I heard some type of rattle back there as i shut it down. It is hard to hear from the flybridge.

Now after replacing the starter all i get is the starter kicking in and engine will not turn over. I pulled plugs and tried to turn over from front bottom but no go.

Someone please tell me that a crusader did not seize up from this. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Chuck

Not sure what you mean by "front bottom." Does it turn over with a wrench applied to the front end? If so, you may only have stripped something in the Bendix drive or (worse) taken some teeth off the flywheel if the Bendix didn't disengage. If not, the Bendix may still be engaged and is preventing rotation of the engine. Removal of the starter should give you a good view of the situation and show you what will be needed to accomplish a repair.

The starter has been removed. When i say front the front bottom, i mean using a wrench at the bottom pulley. I tried to use a long wrench wedged between the three bolts on the bottom pully as i have not founf a socket i can get into the bottom bolt on the crank yet.

again tell me a repower is not in line. A freind in the slip next to me says remember this is a crusader not a a merc and i am over reacting. Hope he is right.

I trust you tried turning the engine over manually with the plugs out? Before you put the starter back on, get yourself the proper socket, it's the only way to be sure.
