Crusader twin 220's starter wont engage

hope i can get some advice i have problem where starter spins but the motor doesnt got a new starter and does the same thing.....
 
so the drive gear isn't engaging?

Did you check the flywheel for missing teeth when you had the starter out?

did you change the starter & solenoid or just the starter motor?
 
yes flywheel looks fine and there are two solenoids one came with the starter the other one i was told as long as i have power to the starter then that solenoid was fine i
 
Those are referred to as the starter solenoid and the slave slolenoid. So you have a new starter and its solenoid and it won't spin over the engine...Ok, a stock starter won't spin until its solenoid plunger bottoms out and supplies sufficent current to drive the starter motor. I'd start by taken the starter back and getting them to show you it works ok on the bench.
 
Is this by chance an old school Bendix Drive starter motor?????
The Bendix Drive motors require good healthy voltage in order to quickly spin the armature in order to kick the Bendix out.
Low voltage, and there's not enough quick torque to throw the Bendix out.

Today we can purchase just about any Marine starter motor in a HTGR/PMGR motor.
These kick the engine over a bit faster, and will do so with a bit less voltage.

If I were you I'd check out the batteries first , if they are not up to full charge or you have some corroded connections you will have this type of problem. A lot of batteries will activate your starter but won't have enough juice to engage the system , let alone turn over the engine.....Lee
 
Classically, that is a problem caused by a slipping starter drive. This is a one way clutch that allows the starter to crank the flywheel, then slip as the engine lights off. (If it didn't the starter--with its huge gear ratio--would spin to fantastic rpms before flying apart.)

Replace te starter or, if you're up to it, the starter drive itself.

thanks for all the info guys turns out the new starter i got was bad got a new on and starts but i now have another issue right motor runs fine by itself but when i start the left motor they both run rough sounds like a wiring problem anyone no where i can get a diagram for a 28ft silverton
