My engine overheated recently and water was flowing at only about 1/3 of it's usual stream out of the tailpipe. I found the impeller had lost a few of the fin pieces. I replaced the impeller, found and pulled out all fin pieces, and now there is no water flowing through at all.
I back-flushed the system and water flowed through easily. I ran the engine and took off hoses at every junction throughout the the system (after water pump, before heat exchanger, after heat exchanger) and water is flowing at a good rate all the way up to the elbow of the exhaust hose (which has a 2 1/2 inch diameter). I then ran a water hose from the dock with more pressure to that same elbow and water flowed through the exhaust hose and out of the tailpipe off the stern.
Any ideas as to why the water isn't making it through the cooling system when being powered by the engine? Could it be the thermostat? Muffler?
I have a survey for insurance coming up and need this fixed asap! So any advice is much appreciated.
