" I have a Chris-Craft outboar

" I have a Chris-Craft outboard motor; it says "CHALLENGER" on the side, and has serial number J12316. Anyone know or can point to someone who does know: the year made, horsepower rating, units produced, the value of this motor ( if there is any). Any info would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Mark "

"Hi Mark,,
The Chris Craft

"Hi Mark,,
The Chris Craft motors were built in the late 1940s/early 1950s. They came in two models the J (yours) at 5.5hp, and the K-10 Commander at 10hp. The Challenger had a longer model run and is quite common. The Commander isn't nearly as common and is quite sought after as it has similar "10hp" performance compared to the 10hp Mercs of the era. Lee Holland is the Antique Outboard Motor Club's "Mr. Chris Craft" and his website is at: http://www.chriscraftoutboards.com
