Changing Oil in a Hydraulic Bridge System

Good day! I cannot find any information on how to change the oil in a hydraulic system. I have a bridge with a hydraulic system, and I don’t know when the oil was last changed. I found a manual that states the oil should be replaced at least once per year. It specifies using hydraulic ISO 46 oil but doesn’t provide any instructions on how to change it.

Are you speaking of a hydraulic steering system?

If so, which brand do you have?

worst case, you can usually drain out what you have, and then refill it and purge any air. Given the history (no maintenance), I would be inclined to repeat it again after a few outings...

No, not about the steering system, it's the BRIDGE telescopic hydraulic gangway's motor. I can't find any manuals, and the location of that motor is far from direct access. My thought was to pump as much oil as possible from the reservoir and add fresh oil, but that wouldn't mean a 100% oil change because of the remaining oil in the hoses and cylinder.

I think that would be better than continuing to defer the system entirely. You will never get 100% out unless you completely disassemble all of the parts and it doesn't sound like there is a need to do that. I think that cycling the bridge a few times BEFORE extracting the oil would be prudent...anything that settled should be mixed up and be visible in what you remove.

If the oil that comes out is in decent shape, I'd be inclined to to add it to the annual maintenance list.

Thank you! Will do.
