Black max dies

My 88 blk max xr4 150 hp has great power, it accelerates great, it will idle all day in neutral, but as soon as you put it in gear it dies. It pretty much does it every time, even when it warms up it will normally do it, unless you get on the throttle immediately. A lot of times when you start it to fires easy, but unless you open the throttle a little it will die. What do you think I need to do?

Ok, thanks. I was looking through the manual and noticed merc made different idle jets for higher altitudes I'll try that.

Just what I thought. Those guys down at sea level never have to worry. My friend in the SD Black Hills at 5000 ft had the similar problem. Jetting fixed it. I would appeal to Mr. Reeves for an answer, but he only usually helps with OMC's......a great carb guy. Insanely intelligent. I will message him for this answer.
