Adding controls

cut-throat

I have a 9.9hp 1980 evinrude model#E10RCSE that I would like to add controls to. I also have a 80hp merc 1983. Is it possible to get one set of controls to run both and if so, what do I need to get. If not, what do I need to get for the rude? Thanks.

as far as i know i have neverrr heard or seen two engines like that run on the same controls espeically being two different types of engines!

is it and electric start already?
if so you will need a wireing harness, and a control box.

The (length of throw) on the shift/throttle cam in the shifter itself is a little different when you compare OMC to Merc.

If you got a set of aftermarket controls (seachoice, teleflex etc) they do have the multiple anchor points for the different makes, but it would have to be the pair of controls (where one is just the throttles and the other just the shifters - so 4 separate handles).

The way we tend to rig for a remote kicker is go with a top mount control on the dash and a side control in the gunwale for the kicker (or a pair of side mounts back to back) - it depends what you have to work with.

To convert your rope start you will need a starter and solenoid and a couple of cables to go to the battery. If you select a control with a key then you can modify the harness using only the wires necessary for the remote start.

Thank you very much for the info. I think that I will stick with the rope start because of $ and I'm still capable of pulling it a couple of times.

The back to back side mount is probably the way to go. Main controlls by steering wheel, flip the seat around and mount trolling controlls where your left hand would be when trolling. They would be backwards but that's not a big deal.

Thanks again.
