"OK, I have rebuilt/resealed,

"OK, I have rebuilt/resealed, gears and bearing were all good. I spent the afternoon trying to put the lower unit on the motor. I could not stab it when in neutral. I could put it in forward and stab it but not neutral or reverse. I could not get the upper and lower shift shafts aligned in neutral. Any thoughts or suggestions?"

"If you can align the shift shaft in forward, that will suffice. Make sure the LU shifts to neutral when the control is put in neutral.

Sometimes the upper shift rod is just a bit off from the lower shift rod."
