the choke is functioning, but when its cold it takes 10 - 15 cranks to start and then dies then have to crank a bunch more and then will run. after she warms up she fires first time... any ideas what the problem is? thanx in advance dimitri

You have to look at your control box and figure out how to open the throttle in nuetral.-----------Some pull sideways and some have a button ---some have a seperate lever to give throttle only.-------Visit a boat shop and ask for help if not , you will have starting trouble and risk damaging the starter.

That is normal for those older Mercs. Turn the key on, push it in and count to 10 slowly, then start it. Keep bumping the key in until it runs smoothly.

Is the bulb primed and staying hard. Is the enricher definately working. I have the exact age and size enginr and will usually start on 3rd try, no nuetral throttle needed.
