Hope you can help. I have an Evinrude 20 HP motor modelE20ELCDC and an OMC remote controller. I have owned this since new in 86. Lastyear I found I was getting water in the lower unit so I brought it to a marinato have new seals put in. I noticed after the repair I had trouble going intoreverse and if I adjusted the motor connection to compensate for it then I had troublegoing in the forward position. I told the marina about it and they said Ineeded to replace the remote controller as it was worn but I can’t see hardly anyplay in the lever. The shifter on the motor moves as soon as I move the lever toeither forward or reverse. I contactedEvinrude and asked their opinion and they said it could be that they did notshim the shaft properly upon putting it back together. Someone else I talked said that the shaft hasgrooves in it and if it turned the least during the re-assembly it could causethis problem. I just need to hear your opinion on this because a new controllerwill cost me $800.00, because they don’t sell the one I have any more and Iwill need to buy all new cables and adapters and I may still have the sameproblem.

There are no shimming procedures on these lower units !--------You likely do not need a new control box either..--------------You need to go back to the shop and politely say " this is not right , it shifted OK before the reseal job "-----------They should fix it for free and it is an easy job !

THANK YOU SOOO MUCH I am retired and can't spend a ton on anything so this will help get me on the water.

1: They have messed up when adjusting the shift rod during re-install of lower.
2: They may have messed up when installing the prop-shaft and not got the dent-balls and spring properly installed.
In both cases - back to the work shop!!
