454 mpi vapro lock??

I just bought a 2001 baja with a 454 mpi with 270 hours on hobbs meter. I have taken the boat to the lake twice. Both times I have ran the boat for about 30 minutes, then shut off the motor. Both times, after about 30 mintes I tried to start the motor. Would not start with repeated attempts for about 30 minutes.
Finally started and ran fine. Did not turn engine off till I was on the trailer both times. Best I can find out, this was vopor locked. I have a Captians Call exhaust. Why would this motor do this??? What can I do to stop this? I have owned a mercury v-6 carburatored motor for 15 years, never missed once.

Thanks for your quick response. I had time to take a look today. Near the engine compartment front bulkhead on the starboard side of the engine I found a plastic shroud with the words "Cool Fuel" covering a fuel filter. Coming through the bulkhead connecting to the filter was what appeared to be a fuel line. 2 lines exiting the filter going under the oil pan
came up the other side of the engine(port side) and into a shroud around what appeared to be a water cooling line. This shroud again has the words "Cool Fuel" on it. On the aft end of this shroud a line exited and went up on the rear side of the engine and connected under the distributer. All this appeared to be some sort of fuel cooling device.
If this is what I found, it must not be working very well.

It's me with the vapor lock. I did the fix above and it now works fine. You might want to start with the cheap fix first which is a check valve in front of the fuel cooler. This stops the hot water from the engine to go back down to the fuel cooler . Run the engine at idle for 5 minutes before you turn it off and see what happens.
